Wa shallallahu 'ala sayyidina Muhammad wa aalihi wa shohbihi wasallam.

  1. Hello Mister Washil Bahalwan,
we have never met but my name is Ad Lans and I live in Belanda.
My ancestors came from Banda Neira.
This year I was on vacation on Banda and met Rizal Bahalwan (Abba).
Perhaps he is family of you?
But I have a question for you: I (and others) are busy writing a book about the perkeneers of Banda (Pala).
And we would like to publish in the book the genealogy of the family Baädilla too.
But in Belanda there is not much known about this family, because they were Arabic people and not Dutch (or European).
I see on your blog that you have information about Sech Said bin Abdullah (Tjong), Lily (Philip) and his sister Rugayah. Lily and Rugayah were children of Abdullah bin Salim Baädilla and Wilhelmina Johanna Carolina Versteegh.
So I know very little about this family.
But mister Washil, please can you help me about more data of the family Baädilla?
We think it very is very important that the genealogy of this family is published.
And also Abba would like that too :-).
    Regards Ad Lans

Pity for me, because I would have liked to know more about this family :-(.
But no problem, I will search further on the internet for information.
    Terimah kassih dan selamat.

  3. Hello Nonamahda,
thank you very much for your answer.
Yes I have gathered information about the Baädilla family from:
    I. AIDIT BAÄDILLA.
II. SAID BIN AIDIT BAÄDILLA, (born ca 1750),
III. AWAD BIN SAID BAÄDILLA, (died bef. 1887),
IV. SECH ABDULLAH BIN AWAT, married to
    1e FATIMA,
2e SECHA DJENA BINTI SECHA OEMAR BAHARAP,
    and 5 of their children.
3 of them were Tjong, Nana and Tjotjo.
I also have (detailed) information about their children and of the grandchildren of Tjotjo; especially the children of his son Philip.
Can you tell me from which person (Tjong, Nana or Tjotjo) you are a descendant of?
Soon I will publish my book and I would like to have the family Baädilla as complete as possible :-).
    Kind Regards,
    Ad Lans

  4. Hello Nonamahda,
It is a good morning with a lot of sun in Belanda 😊.
Perhaps it is more wise to have our conversation more private, but if you would like to have this conversation on this forum I am OK with that.
Anyway my Google address is: snalad55@gmail.com
You wrote to me that you are a granddaughter of Akhmad Bin Abdullah (I think Nana).
If I am correct he was married to 3 Dutch women and perhaps then you are a daughter of Abdullah bin Achmad married to Anthonia Wilhelmina Richardina Borgmeijer.
He is the only son I know of Nana.
From Tjong and Salma I have 14 children.
Now your question about the children of Tjotjo and Wilhelmina Johanna Carolina Versteegh.

Abdullah bin Salim (Dullah) Baädilla was born on 14-08-1884 in Banda Neira, son of Sech Salim bin Abdullah (Tjotjo) Baädilla and Rahima Ragaia binti Said. Dullah died on 07-12-1948 in Soerabaja. On 28-01-1928 Dullah registered to be married in Ambon to Wilhelmina Johanna Carolina (Carolina) Versteegh. Carolina was born on 01-01-1886 in Banda. Carolina died after 1939, aged more than 53. Carolina was widow of Gregorius Alexander Philippus.

    Children of Dullah and Carolina:
1 Syeni (Nur) Baädilla, born on 02-01-1915 in Banda.
2 Saleh Ernest (Boetje) Baädilla, born on 28-03-1916 in Banda.
3 Said (Iet) Baädilla, born on 05-05-1917 in Banda.
4 Rugayah (Jansje) Baädilla, born on 04-08-1918 in Banda.
5 Philip (Lily) Baädilla, born on 30-07-1921 in Banda Neira.
6 Oscar (Tuang) Baädilla, born on 27-07-1925 in Soerabaja.
7 Abubakar (Bak) Baädilla, born on 15-10-1922 in Banda.
8 Abdul (Nana) Baädilla, born on 05-05-1928 in Soerabaja.

Nonamahda, you see I have some data of the Baädilla family, but I am not 100% sure that everything is correct.
There is not a lot of data about the Arabic families in the old Dutch registers of Banda.
I hope you can give me some information about your branch of the family.
    Regards, Ad Lans

  5. Hello Nonamahda,
You tell me that Abdullah bin Awad bin Said bin Aidit was married to a Chinese woman: I think jou know best, because it is your lineage and family.
I already wrote to you that I am not 100% sure that all the Baädilla data I have are correct.
I have a lot of data about the Baädilla family from the two books Des Alwi wrote.
As you know Des was a son of Halijah binti Said Baädilla.
Some time ago I met his son Ramon Alwi and last summer I met the dochter of Ramon, Mita Alwi on Banda.
Perhaps we are talking about a different person (Abdullah bin Awad bin Said bin Aidit).
I checked my data and found that he (as I wrote before) was married to:
    1e FATIMA;
2e SECHA DJENA BINTI SECHA OEMAR BAHARAP.

The father of FATIMA was a captain of the Chinese.
He originated from the Tay family and had 3 daughters.
And SECHA DJENA BINTI SECHA OEMAR BAHARAP, owned in 1887 the perkebunan Boetong.
    Regards Ad

  6. Hi Nonamahda and Ad, My name is Tamalia Alisjahbana and I am still related to Sutan Sjahrir who was exiled in the Banda Islands. I have a house in Kampung Ratu and am a member of the adat i.e. Mama Lima Luar Kampung Ratu. The reason I am writing to you both is to ask whether either of you have a photograph of the old tombstone of Sjech Said bin Abdullah Baadilla (lingkaran hijau), Kapitein der Arabieren, te Banda-Neira in the old Muslim cemetery in Neira. There is a mentally disturbed person in Neira who destroyed the tombstone and the Alwi family would like to produce a replica to repalce it but do not have a photo of the old tombstone. We are looking for anytone who might have a photograph of it. I can be reached at the following email address: talisjahbana@yahoo.com
    Kind wishes,
    Tamalia Alisjahbana

  7. Hello,
The grandfather of my wive has the name Jan Alexander and lived and died on Banda Neira. He was born around 1875 and died searching for pearls on the 12th of august 1931. There is a story that he is a son of a member of the Baadilla-family. His father was married to a german woman with a familyname Alexander. The day his father took a second wive, the son became so angry that he refused to be a Baadilla anymore and took the name of his mother, Alexander.
Wether this is true or not the fact is that there is a relation between the Baadilla family and the Alexander.
Many times a member of the Baadilla family came to a son of Jan Alexander in Makassar and always told the children that they are family.
Another daughter was invited to a funeral of an member of the Baadilla-family and treated as family.
Does anyone know about the story and can tell me more about it?
    Regards, Hein Mulder
